Phoenix water is hard
Phoenix’s 2025 report lists total hardness from 172–302 parts per million, or 10–17.6 grains per gallon. Hardness minerals can leave scale on fixtures, water heaters, and plumbing. Hardness is an aesthetic and maintenance issue; it does not by itself mean your water is unsafe.
Look for a pattern
Scale, spots on glassware, soap that is difficult to rinse, and repeated appliance buildup are useful clues. A hardness test gives a better sizing input than symptoms alone.
Get a scoped recommendation
Ask an installer to explain the incoming hardness, household demand, regeneration settings, salt and water use, maintenance, warranty, and whether every proposed treatment stage addresses a measured concern.
